Trump Cutting Much Needed Aide to Puerto Rico

Still more bad news surrounding Trump.

Are you surprised?

Yeah, neither am I.

Trump is trying to cut funding for Puerto Rico.

  1. If you try to look at it from his completely shameless and amoral point of view, it makes perfect sense. The Attorney General, after supposedly examining the Mueller report for all of five minutes, determined that Trump didn't do anything wrong. (What a shocker.) And since - no point in sugarcoating it - he doesn't give a rat's ass about Puerto Rico, he's taken it upon himself once again to hammer that point home. To make matters worse, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Democrats are going to find a way, once again, to lose in 2020. Call it a hunch.

  2. A lot of people have mentioned that he intended to do this quietly, while the country's attention are still on the Mueller Report. But you know Trump. He can't do anything quietly. As for 2020, I began to feel that was inevitable early on in his presidency, when it became clear that he was still campaigning after the election. He has to keep his backers enthusiastic, after all. What dark times.

  3. Any decade, any century now, people will extract their heads from their asses long enough to stop wrapping themselves in the flag and spewing tired clichés about this being the "land of the free, home of the brave", and ask themselves the following simple question: what kind of a "democracy" do we live in when the person who finishes a distant second is declared the "winner"?

  4. Defenders of the electoral college tend to evoke the founding fathers as the reason why it should be not only perpetrated, but exempt from scrutiny or question. Which is intellectual laziness writ large. They had some great ideas, but they also had some not so great ones: the subjugation of women, the three fifths compromise and the slave trade it sought to justify, etc. If Benjamin Franklin could see the vile shiece of pit currently occupying the WH, somehow I don't exactly think he'd be beaming with pride...
