RIP, King Kong Bundy

The wrestling world lost another legend too soon yesterday. His real name was Christopher Alan Pallies. He died at the age of 61.

As King Kong Bundy, he was one of the most instantly recognizable heels in the WWF during the glory days of the 1980's. He was one of the more imposing wrestlers of his time, and that is saying something! His most famous moment in the WWF came when he was Hulk Hogan's opponent as the main event, facing Hogan for the WWF title in a steel cage match at Wrestlemania 2 in the Los Angeles portion of the event, although he lost.

King Kong Bundy was also the headliner for the one and only WWF event that I would personally attend as a kid, back on the 2nd of February, 1987. He faced Koko B Ware, and the Iron Sheik was also there in a separate match. I remember it felt like a thrill to see some of these guys, who the family had previously seen on television, up close and in person.

Bundy also delved into stand-up comedy, and he even had a few stints in acting. The Bundy family in Married...With Children were named after him, and he made a couple of guest appearances on the show.

David Herro, a close friend to Bundy, made this sad announcement of Bundy's death via Facebook yesterday:

“Today we lost a Legend and a man I consider family. Rest in Peace Chris. We love you. Thank you for believing in me.”

RIP, Christopher Alan Pallies, more famously known as King Kong Bundy.
