⚽️ PSG Knocked Out of UEFA Champions League By Real Madrid ⚽️

Paris Saint-Germain

It looked like PSG was well on their way to a huge, even a historic, win. They played a brilliant first half against Real Madrid, arguably the most prestigious club in Europe, and historically one of the most decorated franchises in the sport. PSG had earned a 1-0 win in Paris in the first match of this Round of 16 match-up. So, if they could hold that admittedly slim lead, or even simply prevent Real Madrid from winning, PSG would advance. The way that they were playing, it appeared there was a fair chance of that.

However, Real Madrid suddenly got very hot, while PSG faced a defensive collapse, allowing three goals in very short succession in the second half. All three goals were by French football star Benzema, who completed the hat trick to lift his club to a come-from-behind win to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Coming off that huge disappointment, PSG returned to Ligue 1 play earlier today, facing Bordeaux. It was a strange situation of the best team in Ligue 1 facing literally the worst team, with PSG hosting, to boot.

No surprise, PSG won convincingly. French megastar Mbappé struck first in the 24th minute, giving the hometown team the early 1-0 lead. Neymar added a goal in the 52nd minute, and Leandro Paredes notched a goal of his own in the 61st minute to provide the game's final score of 3-0 in favor of PSG.

However, perhaps the real story in this game was the extreme dissatisfaction that the home crowd at the Parc des Princes, the home stadium for PSG, rained down on the team. This was particularly pronounced for the star players Messi and Neymar, who heard boos from the crowd as soon as they touched the ball.

PSG remains well ahead of the Ligue 1 standings, with 65 points earned after 28 matches played. Nice is in second place with 50 points after 28 matches played, following by Olympique Marseilles with 47 points after 27 matches played, then 46 points by Rennes and 44 points by Strasbourg, respectively, entering this weekend. Bordeaux was tied with Metz for dead last in the standings entering this weekend, and in danger of relegation.
