Tom Brady Retiring?
Not so fast.
Last month - actually less than a month ago, technically - at some point, I posted a blog entry about Tom Brady, as he had announced his retirement. The news was all over the place. It kind of took me by surprise, since I had heard at one point that he expected to play until he was 45. And he is going to turn 45 in August, just before the preseason is set to kick off.
Also, it seemed surprising that he would retire on such a down note, since his Buccaneers, who were defending champions at the time, had exited the playoffs so quickly, after almost mounting an epic comeback that would have ranked among the all-time great comebacks in NFL playoff history.
Since his retirement became official, however, there were reports leaked that Brady had retired rather against his will. That he had been forced into it, and was not yet ready to leave the game. So this news, that he is coming back for another go at it for the 2022 season, is not really a huge surprise. There were signs everywhere. Brady himself had mused about the idea for some time.
So now, Brady will be back as the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers once again. It will be his third season in Tampa Bay. And assuming that he will be the starter – and who would predict otherwise? – he will set a new record as the oldest quarterback to start a game in NFL history. He just keeps making history.
Now, let’s see how the 2022 season goes for them.
