Earlier today, I posted a short video clip of former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev warning that expanding Western interests, particularly in the form of NATO, would be dangerous. At one point, he warns that humiliating the people of a country - in this case, obviously the Russians, who were really struggling with their country in chaos at the time - was never a good idea, and would always lead to consequences down the road.
I think that he was right. The West is not as much the victim of this current Russian war in Ukraine as they like to play out. Indeed, it often feels to me that Putin was tricked into the war by the West, in one of the few, but obviously most serious, public miscalculations that Putin has ever made.
Please take a look at this video, and see if you do not agree with Gorbachev, that the prospect of continued NATO expansion closer and closer to the border of Russia was bound to escalate into some kind of serious conflict, which it now has.
