Update on War Between Russia & Ukraine For March 16, 2022

Ukrainian President Zelensky addressed the United States Congress today, in an effort to put pressure on the United States to step up with their assistance against Russia. In particularly, Zelensky has called for the establishment of a no-fly zone over Ukraine. Many feel that this would even the score a little bit, and give Ukraine a fighting chance in this war.

After Zelensky's speech,Republican Congressional leaders grew considerably more hawkish. They criticized what they felt was Biden's overly cautious or timid approach, and called for more American military support for the Ukrainian cause. However, American President Joe Biden has reiterated his opposition to such a step. He said that NATO planes shooting down Russian planes – which is what such an action would entail – would be a major escalation of the conflict. He has made no secret that he believes such a step would lead to nothing short of World War III.

Yesterday, leaders of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia traveled to Kyiv to meet with President Zelensky. They were there to represent the European Union, and to show support for Ukraine. They had to travel by train, because air travel was not possible. It was, in fact quite dangerous, yet they managed to  do it nevertheless.

I heard some reports earlier today that Russians had bombed a theater in Mariupol. The theater had been being used as a shelter for hundreds, with some estimates even up to 1,200. The theater was destroyed, although the death toll, to my understanding, has not been completed as of yet.
