Syracuse University: A Brief Visit

The first time that I ever visited the campus of Syracuse University was in April of 1998, when I went to a Rolling Stones concert there with a friend and his family. At that point, I remember being impressed with the campus, and seeing a "real" college campus.

Since that time, I visited Syracuse a few more times, but not so much the campus, until the Paul McCartney concert over this past weekend. Saw downtown Syracuse when we went to see Norman Mailer and his son, John Buffalo Mailer, in conversation promoting a book that they co-wrote together. Then, last September, my son and I saw the Foo Fighters. That time, however, we really did not seem to have enough time to visit any part of the city, other than the actual concert venue. It turned out that the band would be two hours late, so maybe we could have visited the city a little more, but who could have known?

In any case, this weekend offered us a chance to really visit the campus of Syracuse University for the first time since that spring of 1998.

And you know what? It was really nice. I think there was an even greater appreciation of it, and of the beauty of the campus, than back in 1998.

Here are the pictures that we took of the campus from our brief visit over this past weekend.

Enjoy!

Ran into this image of John Lennon, and just thought it was cool, as well as appropriate for the day, given that Paul McCartney was in town.

Walking up the stairs right by the Crouse College building, which was completed in 1889 in the Romanesque style. According to Wikipedia, it housed the first College of Fine Arts in the United States.

Looking across part of the campus towards the Carrier Dome, now known as the JMA Dome, which is where the Syracuse Orangemen play their games. It also is where the Paul McCartney show took place in. Back in 1998, when I saw the Rolling Stones here, it was the first time I had ever been inside of a football dome. Pretty cool.

Syracuse at night: the Crouse College building is lit up beautifully.
