Rent: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

The price of everything lately is getting ridiculously expensive. Inflation has been increasing for a long time - literally decades - so of course this really is nothing new. However, it seems that in recent months, the price of almost everything has been just exploding. Obviously, gas prices have never been higher than they have been recently. And when gas prices rise, the price of pretty much everything else goes up, as well.

Well, one area where the rising prices are really hurting people is rent. And this might not be too innocent. It has always felt to me like a product of greed. We should have learned some better lessons from the conditions that led to the Great Recession of 2008, but it feels like we have not really learned much.

Watch this video by John Oliver, and you will see part of the problem is, indeed, greed. There are some pretty shocking videos revealing just the extent of this greed. It feels like the price of rent, and of housing more generally, is exploding to record highs. And this, in turn, makes it feel like another collapse is imminent. Could be wrong, but just how it feels to me.
