Thought it would be worth sharing this video on the January 6th House Commission.
Here, Representative Liz Cheney speaks about the storming of the Capitol building in Washington by a pro-Trump crowd, trying to forcibly prevent the legal, peaceful transition of power in the White House, which is a democratic tradition dating back centuries.
I must say that Liz Cheney seems an unlikely candidate to play any kind of a heroic role that may prove crucial in preserving America's clearly fragile democracy. Yet, she is one of the very few high profile Republicans who not only criticizes Donald Trump, but in fact, is trying to hold him accountable for his crimes. Yes, crimes.
And as a result, I wish her well in this endeavor. While admittedly, I am skeptical that Trump will actually be held accountable, I still have to hold up some hope that this democracy works, and that people responsible for blatant crimes can still be made to be held accountable for them. Despite obvious and major differences that I would have with Cheney, she has my support, being one of the very few Republicans in particular in Washington who still shows and ounce of courage, patriotism, and conviction, to say nothing of sanity, and to value America's democracy and political stability over her own political gains.
