This was the video that I mentioned a few days ago. It is from a former prosecutor, who points out one huge problem for the House Committee on the January 6th attack on the Capitol building.
What he basically says is that in order to get a guilty verdict, you have to prove criminal intent. This would be near impossible, he says, if Trump legitimately believes that he won the 2020 election, which would be very difficult to disprove.
Also, as he points out, Trump took the advice of lawyers on his team. Even if this was bad advice, and even also if he was being warned repeatedly by a number of people against pursuing this course of action, he nevertheless can claim to have been following the instructions of a fairly well-respected constitutional lawyer. That means that he can weasel his way out of this, most likely. After all, he surely will get a very pricey, and thus capable, team of lawyers, and they will have one job: seeking some kind of reasonable doubt.
Again, I would love for Trump to be held accountable for crimes that he committed. It is just that he has an enormous capacity for self-preservation, which has gotten him out of trouble of his own making time and time again throughout his life and career, both business and, now, politics.
