Video Documents the Rise and Fall of Atari

Last night, I heard some coworkers talking about the new Playstation, the PS5. This is evidently the hot new item to get, and it is in high demand at the moment. Each of the guys were talking about how nice it would be to have one, and how on your toes you need to be to get one. Evidently, it is a mixture of determination, with a bit of luck.

Some of them joked that they barely played certain video games. They mentioned particular games, that a couple of them had evidently purchased and never played or even opened until much later, remaining in the cellophane for longer than it should have, presumably. In one case, one guy mentioned that he hardly had time for video games at all anymore.

It has been a long, long time since I really played video games regularly. I did not participate in this conversation, but the last time that I really was playing video games regularly, on an everyday basis, was probably back in the eighties, when Reagan was still in the White House, and when Atari was still one of the hottest names (although I guess maybe they were already on the decline back then.

Having just run into this video on Youtube - a coincidence, believe it or not - it felt like something that maybe I should publish here. This is the history of Atari, which at one point, used to be the hottest name in video games. Now, it seems like a dinosaur relic of a bygone era.

Enjoy!
