In this video from a couple of days ago, Kirschner diagnoses the situation with members of Team Trump tampering with witnesses.
And more, of course. Even with some people contesting the legitimacy of the story of Trump lunging at his driver - and remember, Ms. Hutchinson never claimed to have seen that particular incident, but rather, only claims to have heard people telling that story - the fact that Trump was urging armed supporters of his to be let in, because he believed that they were not there to hurt him, is enough to qualify as the "smoking gun" against Trump. To me, this man has clearly been guilty of a lot of bad behavior. But this really takes the cake, even by his standard. It shows that he knew what the crowd was there for, and that things might indeed grow violent, but that he was all for it. And in his speeches - and again, his conduct - it was very clear that he intended to stay in power.
In other words, he was urging the armed crowd to go to the Capitol building and to be strong, to show no signs of weakness in order to take back the country. Sure enough, they stormed the Capitol, and did threaten the proceedings. Ultimately, they failed, and we can be thankful at least for that much. Democracy prevailed, but not by a wide margin. Ever since then, we have come to understand that our American democracy, which we generally took for granted in the pre-Trump years, was in serious jeopardy.
Trump needs to be held accountable. He cannot be allowed to pose the threat to democracy that he clearly poses. Frankly, this is as good and clear cut a case as there has been. And it goes beyond possible corruption with a leader of a foreign nation, withholding aid for personal favors. This was a direct threat to our very own American democracy itself. Trump still poses that same threat to democracy and, once and for all, he and other like him need to understand that there are limits to things, and that there is a price to pay for the folly of assuming too much.
