Okay, so Canadian Football League (CFL) season is now well under way. Week 5 is already complete, and it is getting interesting.
There was a battle of unbeatens when the 4-0 Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who happen to be the defending Grey Cup champs, visited the 3-0 British Columbia Lions in Vancouver. It was the most hotly anticipated game of the week. However, it was not much of a game, as the Blue Bombers took command early, and never really relinquished the momentum. They jumped out to a 24-0 lead before the Lions even got on the scoreboard, and ultimately cruised to a convincing 43-22 win. It was not an error free game for the Blue Bombers, but it got the job done and kept them undefeated.
The other unbeaten team in the CFL also won convincingly on the road. That would be the Calgary Stampeders, who absolutely crushed and humiliated the Edmonton Elks in front of their home crowd, winning 49-6.
Also, the Saskatchewan Rough Riders hosted the Ottawa Red Blacks, defeating them 28-13. Saskatchewan improved to 4-1 on the season, while Ottawa dug their hole even deeper, remaining winless on the year as they fell to 0-4.
Now, the CFL looks to a big showdown between the last two unbeaten teams when the Blue Bombers host the Stampeders on Friday night as the Game of the Week for Week 6. Otherwise, the 1-4 Elks will visit the 1-3 Alouettes on Thursday. On Saturday, Toronto will hope to improve on their 1-2 record when they host the Rough Riders, who still look impressive at 4-1. Later that day, the two remaining winless teams in the league will face off, when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Red Blacks in Ottawa. Both teams are 0-4, and neither wants to be the last winless team in the league.
