(above pictures taken by me during PJ's Philly show on 10/22/13 - their 23rd anniversary show)
Pearl Jam at Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ - September 8, 1998
What I remember most for this particular concert were the great seats. I never had better for a Pearl Jam show, or really, any major arena or stadium concert. Second row, center. That was back when being a member of the fan club really had some serious, undeniable benefits.
Also, I remember it for the opening song more than any other. It was "Oceans," and to this day, after having now seen 25 Pearl Jam shows, it remains the one and only time that they played this particular song at one of the shows which I went to.
One more thing that I specifically remember from this show. There were some girls near where we were sitting who created these signs to try and get the band to play "Breath." It had all of these stats on it, showing how often the band had played it, and how long it had been since the last time that they had played it (it had been years). She asked that everyone hold it up, I think, for the encore. And Eddie Vedder, as I recall, fell over laughing, then responded in what felt like a patronizing way, saying that he didn't go into our place of employment and tell us how to do our job, then specified something about how to make coffee.
Oh, and one more thing. Fairly early in the show, Vedder stopped the show briefly, and then imitated a baseball swing, hitting something with his guitar into the stands. Then congratulating Mark McGuire for breaking the home ruu record. This was the summer when the homerun race between McGuire and Sammy Sosa would make all sorts of history and gain a lot of attention, even though now they are both generally discredited for having taken steroids.
Mostly, it was just how great the seats were which really blew me away.

Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY Show One - September 10, 1998
Most Pearl Jam fans who keep up with things will notice one thing first and foremost: this wasn't the legendary show that they put on the next day, which was rated by some Pearl Jam fans as their greatest show ever.
What I remember most from this show was that we had truly nosebleed eats, although at least we were there. We were joking around at certain points, the friend I went with and me. Also, we stood for much of it, knowing that there was nobody behind us would be bothered, since we were all the way at the last row in our section. Again, these were not the closest or best seats that either of us had ever had.
Mostly, we remember this show as the one we attended, instead of the apparently far better show the next night. As a Pearl Jam fan, I regret not having gone to the third local show, and the second MSG show. But I have been to plenty of their shows since, so I cannot complain.
