Thursday Night Football Review: 49ers Predictably Dominate Injury Laden Giants

2023 Week 3 Thursday Night Football Review: San Francisco 49ers 30, New York Giants 12

The New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers met this past Thursday. And the outcome was fairly predictable.

While the Giants defense played well for most of the first half, and Big Blue actually was able to make and even keep it a fairly close game, at least in terms of the score, with a touchdown in the third quarter, it was not nearly enough.

In fact, the 49ers dominated almost every facet of this game, although that was not necessarily reflected in the score until right at the very end, when San Francisco scored a touchdown late in the fourth that put the game out of reach.

To what extent did they dominate?

Well, they held onto the ball for 39:10, for a nearly two to one ratio in terms of time of possession. This was particularly true in the second half, when it felt as if the Giants defense was on the field for the vast majority of the time, and could not get that physical San Francisco offense off of the field.

Altogether, the 49ers offense amassed 440 yards and 26 first downs to just 150 yards and 1 first downs for Big Blue. Also, the Giants committed a turnover, while SF had none.

I mean, we all knew that this would be a huge ask for Big Blue, even if they were fully healthy. But they were not fully healthy. And once again, the offensive line was the major problem, just as it has been now for literally roughly a decade or so.

My pick: Accurate
