A couple of days ago, I posted a blog entry about Novak Djokovic and his historical victory at the U. S. Open. It was his 24th career Grand Slam title, which now puts him ahead of everybody, man or woman, during the Open era in tennis.
Yet as this article (see link below) suggests, there was even more to that. Djokovic won what was then his 250th career win over top ten competition. He earned yet another one in the final against number three ranked Daniil Medvedev.
Here is the overall list among men, according to that article:
MOST TOP 10 WINS IN ATP RANKINGS HISTORY (since 1973)
250: Novak Djokovic [250-110]
224: Roger Federer [224-123]
186: Rafael Nadal [186-102]
166: Ivan Lendl [166-92]
128: John McEnroe [128-94]
127: Jimmy Connors [127-109]
124: Pete Sampras [124-71]
121: Boris Becker [121-65]
113: Bjorn Borg [113-46]
109: Andre Agassi [109-90]
You can now add a 251st career win because of the final.
Yet, that is not the only bit of history that Djokovic made. Here again, I borrow from the article by tennis.com, and let it tell the story:
And that’s not where the history-making day ended—Djokovic is now also through to the 47th Major semifinal of his career, a new all-time men’s record, surpassing Federer’s 46.
Said it before, but it bears repeating: Unbelievable!
Below is the link to the story that I used here, and from which I managed to obtain all of the specific stats in this blog entry:
