CFL Update: Weekend of September 18 - 19, 2026

   

Montreal 37, Hamilton 25 - For now, the Montreal Alouettes remain with the top record in the CFL. They raced out to a 17-0 lead and were up, 24-3, by halftime. Hamilton rallied in the fourth quarter to make it look a little more respectable, but the Alouettes had built the lead up to 27-3 entering the final quarter, and extended it to 34-3 well into the fourth quarter. So Montreal clearly had the game well in hand before Hamilton began scoring a lot of hollow points to make the final score more respectable and appear closer than the game actually was.. With the win, Montreal improves to 11-3, as they inch their way closer to clinching the East Division. Meanwhile, Hamilton falls to 4-10 on the year.

Calgary 40, Ottawa 38 - This game was decided on the final play of the game, with a field goal attempt. Calgary needed the field goal to go through the uprights, and their prayers were answered. But that was how close the tortured Ottawa Redblacks were to finally ending their dreadful winless start. However, they instead fall to 0-13 on the year now.  Calgary, meanwhile, improves to 6-8 on the year, helping them to remain relatively competitive in the West Division, despite the losing record. 

Toronto 24, Edmonton 19 - The Edmonton Elks were likely the hottest team in the CFL heading into this game. But the Argonauts managed to stay cool and get the better of them, although only just. It was a tight game, although the Argos managed to hold on for this critical win. With this third straight win, Toronto improves to 8-6 on the year, although they remain three games behind the Alouettes as a result of Montreal's win. As for Edmonton, they fall to 10-4, although they remain in first place overall in the Wes Division.
