As far as the climate across the globe is concerned, this summer has easily been the worst which I can ever remember or even heard of, in terms of excessive heat This update comes at a time when it actually has been relatively cool here in New Jersey, as the summer here (which was relatively normal for this particular region, actually) begins to wind down with the approach of autumn.
Unfortunately, that is not the case in Europe, where yet another massive heatwave - I believe this makes it the sixth major heatwave that Europe has been forced to endure since May - is underway.
Traditionally, Europe - particularly western Europe - had a reputation for having mostly moderate weather. Mild summers and winters, generally speaking. However, that has changed in recent years and decades, Summers in particular have grown noticeably hotter, with some massive heatwaves that have scorched the continent, often bringing serious and concerning droughts along with them.
While those kinds of heatwaves and hot spells in summer have grown more common for Europe, never before in recorded history has Europe experienced the kind of almost relentlessly oppressive periods of heat which Europe saw since May. It was one heatwave after another, bringing with them the other disasters that tend to go along with such record heatwaves. Things like serious droughts causing massive crop failures, as well as record wildfires. Plus, tens of thousands have died all across Europe as a result of the heat.
While scanning headlines on the subject, I saw the headlines from a Reuters article which revealed that the output of wine ahnd champagne from France is the lowest in three decades.
An utter disaster, in short.
Now, we are in September. Usually, this would be a time when the conditions and temperatures begin to relent a bit.
Yet, Europe is now forced to endure still another massive heatwave, with intense and, in some cases, record heat being recorded. The two countries which seem to have been hit the most frequently, if not perhaps also the most intensely, by these record heatwaves were France and Spain. They have been hit hard again with this latest heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40C at times.

On Thursday, El Granado in south-west Spain reached 45.7C (114F), the country's highest temperature recorded this year.
Just awful.
The heatwave should abate in the coming days, although first it spread to other countries in Europe, including Britain. The Mediterranean remains significantly hotter than usual by up to four degrees, according to the same article.
