Ann Coulter Believes That Qatar Offering Trump $400 Million Jet Is Same As France Giving Statue of Liberty As a Gift

 

This is a picture of a magnet that was being sold at Strand's Book Store in New York City a few years ago. No, I did not buy it, but I liked it and took a picture, which I am sharing here now. 

Yesterday, I had a blog entry about Ann Coulter and her astonishingly racist and stupid - even for her! - comment about how perhaps "we didn't kill enough Indians."

Well, I saw this article while doing that research, and singled it out.

Another stupid comment. Basically, she seems to be suggesting that it's okay for Donald Trump for get that $400 million "gift of love" from Qatar. After all, she asks, didn't we accept the gift of the Statue of Liberty from France?

It is an argument designed to make people who don't put much thought into it say, "Yeah, you know what? She has a point."

No, she doesn't have a point. It's false equivalency, and pretty obviously flawed logic. Then again, this is Ann Coulter we're talking about. So it's to be expected.

Yes, the Statue of Liberty was indeed a gift from France. But there are some differences, and obvious ones at that. First of all, it was 140 or so years ago, and no country has given us something similar since, to me knowledge. Secondly and most importantly, that was a gift to the American people, and not a luxury jet to appeal to the vanity of a shallow and blatantly corrupt president.

Indeed, that gift for the American people also met with Congressional approval. 

Also, again, it was a gift for ALL of the American people, and not merely one corrupt leader who directs his foreign policy based on how willing foreign governments are to give such gifts.

Is that point not clear to her?

My guess is that she is being deliberately blind and stubbornly stupid on that point. Maybe indeed she has fallen into irrelevance, having burned her bridges with Trump and MAGA, and was trying to get back into their good graces. Maybe that also explains her comments yesterday, too, about not having killed enough Indians. 

What an awful person. Let's hope she falls back into irrelevancy.
