Walking the "Be Well" Trail in Parsippany, New Jersey

This was a strange weekend for me. It was one of my brutal weekends, meaning that I worked five shifts between Friday night and Monday morning. That is always exhausting, and this past weekend felt particularly so.

However, there was one thing which I managed to do on Sunday morning which stood out. There is an hour that I have between the end of my overnight shift at 6 AM and the start of the day shift at my weekend job, at 7 AM. Over the years, my priorities have altered. In the beginning, I would find a quiet spot in the parking lot and try to take a nap. But this generally only made me more tired.

So then I began to take trips to either 7-11 or Wawa or Quik Chek. But I was not always in the mood to eat or get coffee, or spend money, for that matter.

Every now and then, I would just read.

Earlier this year, however, I began to look for places to go for an early morning walk. I found a spot at a nearby park, and have gone for walks more often than not on weekends since then. Instead of draining my energy, as naps tended to do, getting up and being active like that actually increased my energy.

This weekend, however, I had to run a few errands. So time was limited.

I decided maybe this might be the time to try a trail which is literally right next to my location at the weekend job.

It's weird, because while I have worked there for about 5 1/2 years, somehow I had yet to really walk this trail. A good part of it can be seen from the building itself, especially from the top (third) floor. Perhaps it just seemed a little too close to work itself.

Nevertheless, with time being a factor, I went ahead and walked the trail, once and for all.

And you know what? It was not half bad. Not spectacular. After all, it skirts through a narrow patch of trees dividing the office building (my weekend job) from the suburban neighborhood on the other side of the trees. So there were no expectations of being absolutely blown away by something unexpected and spectacular.

Yet, it was a pleasant walk. It was under the shade of trees for most of it, which added to the refreshing feel of the early morning walk. And while there were no truly astonishing surprises, there were some decent surprises, nevertheless. That included a giant chair (although they made clear that you were not supposed to climb up and sit in the enormous chair) and a bee farm. I have loved the idea of bee farms for a long time, and flirted with the idea of taking care of one someday, perhaps when I retire.

Took some pictures, which seemed worth sharing here.

Enjoy.
