Trump has been lashing out, trying to say anything and do anything to draw attention away from the Epstein Files which, if you recall, he promised to release during last year's presidential campaign. Fast-forward to just around six months after he was sworn in for a second term, and he has not made good on his promise of releasing the Epstein Files.
This is not new, of course. It's been going on for a while, and seems to have come to dominate the news headlines for the past week or two in particular. MAGA almost never shows any signs of anything but unquestioned loyalty towards Dear Leader, but even they are beginning to question why there are such glaring inconsistencies between what Trump promised to do as a candidate for the White House last year, and what Trump and his administration are actually doing now that they are in power.
For the first time in any major sense, MAGA seems to be seriously divided. They showed signs of that some weeks ago when Trump launched air strikes against Iran. That felt like Wag the Dog. And if that felt like an attempt to distract from things going poorly with the Trump administration, with his popularity plummeting at the time, it feels like this story with the Epstein Files cover-up by the Trump administration is really getting at least some prominent members of the MAGA cult to wake up, finally.
Frankly, I was beginning to wonder if they had any independence of thought at all. It's good to see that they do draw the line somewhere, even if it took an actual case of pedophilia ring (as opposed to the ridiculous "Pizzagate" conspiracy theories), which it sure seems like Trump had ties to, in order for them to finally recognize that some things simply do not add up.
Of course, Trump made other promises for the second term which he failed to deliver, as well. The war in Ukraine has not yet ended, even though he said he could get it to end within 24 hours. He promised to lower the price of gas and groceries, but failed to do that.
No problem, if you are Trump. After all, you lie so damn much anyway, so just lie again and declare - as if it is the truth - that prices of gas have dropped down dramatically since he became president. He even suggested - with a straight face no less - that some gas stations are now selling gas for under two dollars a gallon.
Really?
Where, exactly? The last time that I saw sub-two dollar gas prices was during the pandemic, when nobody was driving. I doubt very much that there is any gas station anywhere in the United States that is actually selling gas for under two dollars. Moreover, that certainly is not typical by any chance. In fact, most of the gas that I see sells for over three dollars per gallon.
More recently, Trump is trying to distract from the Epstein in any way that he can. He releases all sorts of ridiculous, obviously attention-seeking posts on his Truth Social. He is attacking Harvard University again. He released files on the assassination on Martin Luther King, Jr.. More on the antiquated accusations of Hillary Clinton's emails, which was hot news just under a decade ago. He is taking credit for Coca-Cola returning to an old flavor, because obviously the American people have a lot of needs, but top on everyone's list is the taste of a refreshing beverage, right? Hard-hitting news to the core. Speaking of which, he is demanding that the Washington Commanders change their name back to the Redskins, even though he once dismissed a president fixating on the name of an NFL franchise as being trivial and unworthy of the Oval Office. Now look at what he's doing, eh?
Most recently, he is claiming irrefutable proof of treason by President Obama, who he insists on calling "Hussein Obama." It's the same old same old. Anything to try to fire up his base. And the only way he seems to feel that he can do that is trying to put the magnifying glass in the usual culture war subjects. For once, it's not really working out quite the way that he wants.
In the past, such things would work. But in light of the obvious attempts to divert attention away from the fact that he has yet to release the Epstein Files, all of these things finally seem to be falling on deaf ears.
Finally.
All it took is some serious evidence - much of which has existed and been in the public eye for quite a long time, by the way - that Trump has obviously uncomfortable ties to a pedophile and his elitist ring.
Sigh.
Anyway, at least there have been signs that there are some limits.
Finally.
Trump’s Lies Are SO BAD Even His Base Is Waking Up
