House Republicans Are Working To Rename the Kennedy Center Opera House After Melania Trump

At first glance, this may appear like a spoof headline. Perhaps something that you might find in the Onion, or some other satirical publication. Certainly, you could likely be excused for thinking that it is, as I did for the first second or two when I saw it.

Sadly, it is not. This is real.

And really, should we be surprised? After all, have we not gotten used to the most ridiculous shit passing as "news" here in the United States in recent years. Especially since about, say, 2016 or so?

Perhaps next, King Con Don will get his wish and get his image up on Mount Rushmore, as he has quite clearly desired for some time now. In fact, one prominent member of his administration got into his good graces by presenting Trump with a model of Mount Rushmore which included Trump. Here is a snippet of a CNN article:

During Trump’s first term, then-South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem gave him a $1,100 bust of Mount Rushmore featuring his face, knowing he’d appreciate the gesture. She’s now his homeland security secretary.

Ah, the ego and the MAGAlomaniac, and the blatant corruption which is running things currently in the White House.

No, he didn't lower the price of gas and groceries as he promised he would as candidate Trump, even if he now blatantly lies and says that he did. No, he didn't end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours as he promised that he would. No, he didn't release the Epstein Files as he promised last year, when he was trying to win back the White House. And that is just this second term. In the first term, he also did not deliver on a whole number of promises, including (but not limited to) building the wall and making Mexico pay for it, creating a national healthcare system that would be affordable and would cover everyone, paying off the national debt within eight years (he has now added a staggering $8 trillion in the less than five years occupying the Oval Office), making America a respected world power which nobody would laugh at (remember, he was laughed at while making a speech before the United Nations), and locking up Crooked Hillary. So many broken promises, and some of his most loyal people are only now beginning to have the slightest doubts, based on how far he seems willing to go to avoid releasing the Epstein Files (which again, he promised to release) and to try to actively divert our collective attention elsewhere (anywhere else, please!).

Yet, these are the things that are being actively discussed. Having the image of Trump on Mount Rushmore. That's another thing that might have seemed like a bad joke not long ago. Certainly, it sounded like a joke during his first term. Now it once again seems to be an "issue" that is actively discussed. It was what Noem used to worm her way into this administration, and to make herself far more visible than she ever was before.

Imagine if all of this comes to pass. We get the Melania Trump replacing John F. Kennedy for the national arts center in Washington. We get the Trump $250 bill, or perhaps he replaces Franklin on the $100 bill (don't laugh, because that, also, was considered an option not too long ago). And the coup de grâce for this era of jaw dropping levels of disgusting corruption and greed and eroding democracy in this unbelievably stupid political era in the United States: seeing Trump's image placed on Mount Rushmore. Because defacing an entire mountain in the beautiful Black Hills to honor past presidents just isn't enough.

Now imagine that we discover - well after the fact, of course - that Trump is indeed on the Epstein List, which sure seems to be a stronger possibility with each passing day. After all, this cover-up seems almost to top the Watergate cover-up. If he's so innocent and perfect, why are thy acting so afraid? What do you have to hide?

Let's focus on finally releasing the Epstein Files, like he so loudly promised to do as a candidate last year, before we once again plunge into the madness of immortalizing this man (and perhaps his wife) on national shrines and currency.

Have we no more urgent business to attend to in this country? With democracy under attack and possibly dying, with Trump adding $3 trillion to the national debt of $37 trillion while the financial standing of the United States has never been lower, and with the entire world reacting strongly to the economic attacks launched by the Trump administration in the form of tariffs, with record heat waves and record floods here in the United States and elsewhere seeming to confirm climate change, and with our nation's reputation being seriously compromised the world over (we have kind of become the butt of jokes around the world with this current president), we really have no more pressing issues to deal with than this?

No wonder we have earned the reputation of being collectively stupid.

Shameful.
