Some Donald Trump Supporters Truly Believe That He Was a Gift From God

Recently, it has been hard not to notice just how seriously some religious people are taking Donald Trump. Some of them almost seem to think that this man can walk on water, and are outright discussing the possibility that he may be like a Biblical figure.

Case in point, there was a billboard in Missouri featuring a picture of Trump, with the words "Make the Gospel Great Again!"

If that sounds like a scary thought, then consider this: below Trump's image, there was a verse from the Bible. This was it:

"The Word Became Flesh..." John 1:14

This was apparently not some kind of weird joke.

Interstate 170 near St. Charles Rock Road, and could be seen on southbound lanes. The owners of the billboard decided to take it down, stating that it did not meet their criteria for political advertising. They also said that it was unclear who was behind the billboard.

One group, however, which is calling itself 'Make the Gospel Great Again,' is claiming responsibility. They issued this statement about the intentions behind the billboard:

"Our billboard IS NOT equating Jesus with President Donald Trump. Salvation comes only from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not any man. But God does send his messengers to us, and just as King David liberated the faithful in his day, President Trump is doing this today through his protection of the unborn, defense of our land against foreign invaders and standing up for Israel. He surrounds himself with champions for Christian Rights –Mike Pence, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. Compared to the disaster of a president we had in Obama, how is this not the “word become flesh” for Americans? As Christians we must not stand against God’s will despite the persecution we face for doing so."

How is the arrival of of Donald Trump not the "word become flesh?"

Well, let's see...let's start with his announcement that he was running for the White House in 2015, when he admitted to being extremely greedy. This was the exact quote:

"I've grabbed all the money I can get. I'm so greedy. Now I want to be greedy for the United States; I want to grab all that money."

Yes, and that greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, by the way. It is not like you have to try and even equate the word or concept, because greed is directly seen as one of those deadly sins. Trump also mentioned the word grabbing - twice - in that comment, and that should remind you, me, and everybody of yet another Trump quote, when he said that women allowed him to grab them by the (whatever), because he was such a huge star. That would strongly suggest both pride and lust, and yes, both of those are among the Seven Deadly Sins, as well. You can sure make the case for gluttony, as well. And wrath. And envy. And sloth.

Trump more accurately symbolizes the Seven Deadly Sins, than any Biblical values.

Yet, here is this group, that seems to feel that the arrival of Donald Trump is a sign of the "word become flesh." And if you remember from a blog entry I posted on March 30th (Was Donald Trump a Gift From God? Mike Pompeo Believes That Trump Might Just Be a Biblical Savior:http://charbor74.blogspot.com/2019/03/was-donald-trump-gift-from-god-mike.html), Trump's Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, believed that Trump might be a Biblical Savior.

When you think like that, it makes it kind of hard to criticize the man, right? It really too closely resembles hero worship. And with a man as notoriously dictatorial as Trump, that can be very, very dangerous. We, as a country, as playing with fire.

Personally, I feel that Trump supporters have given their country the modern day equivalent of the Trojan Horse. And they are doing it proudly, whooping it up at his political rallies, and giving him unconditional support, never questioning anything about this hardly innocent, much less Biblical, man. He is known to lie, to the point where even political allies can hardly deny it.

Still, apparently there are still many people out there who truly feel that this symbol of all of the worst excesses of the United States is some kind of Biblical figure. It would be laughable, if it were not actually real, and therefore, tragic. My own belief is that it will have tragic consequences, and has had some already. But the worst is yet to come.

Speaking of quotes and passages, this reminds me of another quote that always comes to my mind when I hear supposedly good, faithful Christian people who adore Trump, and even believe him to be a man of God. This is the quote:

"The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. An evil soul producing holy witness. Is like a villain with a smiling cheek, A goodly apple rotten at the heart."

- William Shakespeare
