Golden State Warriors Sweep Past Portland & Reach 5th Straight NBA Finals

"Anybody who thinks they're going to win the world championship without Kevin Durant, don't know anything about basketball."

- Charles Barkley

Last night, I wrote a little blog entry about Charles Barkley claiming that the Golden State Warriors could not possibly win the NBA title without Kevin Durant.

Well, maybe, and maybe not.

However, the Warriors have not only looked impressive since his injury, but they have looked positively dominant. That does not guarantee that they will beat either the Milwaukee Bucks or the Toronto Raptors, whoever comes out of the Eastern Conference Finals. But I would also caution that it certainly does not mean that they are incapable of winning the whole thing without KD, either.

Just look at how they quickly and seemingly easily dispatch the Portland Trailblazers in the Western Conference Finals.

So, the Warriors wind up reaching their fifth straight NBA Finals, a feat that has not been seen in the NBA since the 1960's - over fifty years ago! The Warriors now join the Boston Celtics as the only two franchises to have qualified for the NBA Finals five straight times.

What an achievement!

  1. Not the brightest thing Charles Barkley has ever said. The Warriors are more than good enough to win a title without Kevin Durant - they've done it before, and I predict they'll be hoisting the trophy again in a couple of weeks or so. Granted, they'll be facing a tough Eastern Conference team - probably Milwaukee. But the Bucks are young and inexperienced. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to win a title within the next two to three years, but I don't think they're going to do it this year, as much as I'd love to see that happen. My prediction: Golden State defeats Milwaukee in six games.
