Distinguished Professor Richard Feynman Shared His Fascinating Philosophy on What Education Is & How to Implement It For Our Kids

"As I get older, I realise being wrong isn't a bad thing like they teach you in school. It is an opportunity to learn something."

- Richard Feynman

Sometimes, it feels as if everything in the United States presently is in a state of decline. Sometimes, even an advanced state of decline. Surely, that is just an impression, and not necessarily indicative of the full truth. But when you see just how much we tend to bicker about politics, and you see the sorry state of things here, with rampant gun violence and the escalating wealth gap and the ridiculous national debt, among other things, it is difficult not to come close to despair.

However, there is one area which feels even more urgent when you see it in decline, and that would be education.

Why?

Because educating kids today will have a definite impact on the future for this country, and for the world. So when you see what certainly seems like proof that our schools are failing, it feels like we are failing our own children, and the future for the country.

Personally, I feel that education is undervalued presently in the United States. When you see how Florida, for example, seems to be playing with fire in terms of their education system, hiring underqualified individuals as teachers while chasing more qualified teachers away, and banning books, which has been making quite a bit of news lately, it really makes you wonder.

So I thought it would be worth sharing some of these thoughts on education by the late Professor Richard Feynman, who has some truly thought-provoking sentiments about what education is, and how to go about it.

Enjoy.

Teach your students  • to doubt,  • to think,  • to communicate,  • to question,  • to make mistakes, • to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly • have fun in their learning. 🧠

You cannot get educated by this self-propagating system in which people study to pass exams, and teach others to pass exams, but nobody knows anything.  You learn something by doing it yourself, by asking questions, by thinking, and by experimenting. 🧠
