Yesterday was cold. Damn cold. There were several local places here in the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area that set new records for cold.
Yet, there was one place that was historically cold on an entirely different level yesterday. That would be atop Mount Washington, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Of course, the White Mountains are known for very unpredictable - and potentially dangerous - weather year round. But yesterday, the temperatures sank to historical lows, as it reached negative 47 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service. Even more astonishing, is that it felt like minus 108 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill factor.
That sets a new record for Mount Washington and, along with it, I believe that sets a new cold temperature record for the lower 48 states.
Unbelievable!
