Benjamin Ferencz, the Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor, Received Congressional Gold Medal & Honored With Bronze Bust

The last surviving lawyer from the Nuremberg Trials following Germany's defeat in World War II received a unique distinction recently:

On January 19th, Benjamin Ferencz, the legendary Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal – the nation's highest expression of appreciation for achievements and contributions.

Ferencz also had several honors before this, which includes his bust at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands. Copies via moldings of that same bust is being made available now by the original artist.

At 102 years old, Ferencz is one of the last surviving major players from that era. In the article linked below, they summarized some of his very impressive accomplishments over the course of his over century lived:

Ferencz' case at Nuremberg was the Einsatzgruppen trial, also known as "the biggest murder trial in history." In 1947, he famously tried and convicted twenty-two Nazi high-ranking officers responsible for killing more than one million Jews. After World War 2, Ferencz oversaw the Israel – Germany reparations program. He has been an advocate of and has been cited as one of the main catalysts behind the formation of the International Criminal Court, implementing the formation of 'rule of law.'

Despite his advanced age, Ferencz has still voiced his concerns about the direction that the world is going. In the first article linked below, he shares his thoughts on some of the situations which the world finds itself, including the Ukraine war. He also warned Americans about former President Trump's attacks on the Constitution, which I wrote about a couple of years ago:

Also, I wrote one other blog entry back in 2017 about Ferencz and his take on our modern world

Indeed, this man truly does seem like "a treasure of humanity."

Here are the links to the two articles which I used in writing this particular blog entry about former Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor Benjamin Ferencz:
