New York Jets

vs.

Cleveland Browns

On Thursday night, the NFL preseason kicked off with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. It featured the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns, both with relative new look offenses, and both with high expectations for the upcoming season. The Jets, of course, picked up Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, while the Browns got Deshaun Watson.

However, neither high-profile quarterback started yesterday's game. For the Jets, it was Zach Wilson who took the helm for the first few series. He looked good, completing 3 of 5 passes for 65 yards, which included a very impressive 57-yard pass to Malik Taylor.

The Jets played very well in the first half. They took a 16-7 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half, however, belonged to the Cleveland Browns, who scored 14 unanswered points to rally from behind and earn a 21-16 win over Gang Green.

For Cleveland, Kellen Mond started at QB. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 92 yards, with one touchdown and one INT. However, it was rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson who really raised eyebrowns with his play in the second half. He completed 8 of 11 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown, and helped the Browns rally for the comeback win.

This was the first appearance in the Hall of Fame Game for the Jets since 1992. Back then, they had a brand new quarterback who many had high hopes for, and were coming off a playoff season which gave plenty of people high hopes. The Jets crushed the Philadelphia Eagles, 41-14 in that game, back when AFC teams would play NFC teams in the game. Now, things are different. The Jets were awesome in the preseason that year, but then abysmal when the actual season came around. Not sure how the Jets will do the rest of the year, but let's hope that this coming season is a successsful one for Gang Green.
