Okay, so once again, I should probably give updates on the CFL, lest too much of the season pass by, and I fall hopelessly behind.
So here goes:
Winnipeg 50, British Columbia 14 - The Blue Bombers enjoyed a statement win this weekend, absolutely crushing the Lions, who had been in sole possession of first place pretty much through this season thus far. But with this exclamation point win, in which both the offense and defense played magnificently for Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers managed to get even in the standings, with both teams now sporting identical 6-2 records, and sitting tied atop the standings in the West. The Lions will need to shake off the effects of this embarrassment in a hurry.
Calgary 20, Toronto 7 - The defending champion Toronto Argonauts were the last remaining unbeaten team this season. They went to Calgary sporting an impressive 6-0 record. Meanwhile, the Stampeders had been struggling thus far this season. But none of that was in evidence this weekend, as Calgary dominated the Argonauts, handing them their first loss of the season.
Montreal 27, Hamilton 14 – This was the first CFL game this season which I actually managed to watch most of live on my television. It was tight through the first quarter, which ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams seemed to make mistakes and play sloppily. Then, Hamilton scored a touchdown early in the second, and I assumed – wrongly, as it turns out – that they very likely were on their way to a win. However, it was the Alouettes who dominated the rest of the game, powering their way to outscore the Tiger-Cats 27-7 the rest of the way, earning their fourth straight win to remain in second place in the East Division.
Saskatchewan 26, Ottawa 24 - A very tight game, where both teams seemed to play well. It was an important game for both teams, and the win allows the Roughriders to stay ahead of Calgary in third place in the West. Meanwhile, the Redblacks fall to a tie for last place with Hamilton following this disappointing loss.
