France just advanced at the Women's World Cup with a very convincing victory over Morocco, a side that had surprised many with consecutive upsets over South Korea and Colombia. That allowed them to reach the knockout stage for the first time.
Once there, however, they were overwhelmed by Les Bleues.
The scoring started relatively early for France, when Kadidiatou Diani managed to break through in the 15th minute, giving France the early edge.
They expanded that lead when Kenza Dali scored in the 20th minute.
After that, Eugénie Le Sommer made it clear that this game was going to be a rout, when she scored in the 23rd minute, and scored the last goal of the game in the 70th minute, completing the 4 goal margin of victory.
France clearly outplayed Morocco in almost every aspect of this game. They held possession of the ball for three-quarters of game time, and had 15 shots on goal, compared to just one for Morocco. Five of those shots for France were on target, while Morocco has none in this game.
With this win, France advanced to the quarterfinal round, where they will play the hosts, Australia, on August 12th.
Should be interesting!
