NFL 2023-24 Week 10 Review: Two NFC Bottom Feeders Square Off When Panthers Visit Bears in Chicago

Carolina Panthers (1-7) at Chicago Bears (2-7)

This one is not exactly going to be considered the game of the week by most people, is it?

Indeed, these are two of the worst teams in the NFC - in the entire league, really - and they square off in the middle of a season where they both have all but officially been eliminated from the playoffs. It's not official yet for either team, but we all know that neither of these teams will be anywhere to be seen once the regular season ends, and the postseason begins, right?

Still, it is an NFL game, and it has some ramifications. At this point, not least of the ramifications will be for players and coaches trying to show and produce enough to justify having jobs next season. Perhaps also, you could suggest that there is pride on the line, as well.

Now all of that said, I am not entirely sure that either team is necessarily as bad as their dismal regular season records to this point suggests. The Carolina Panthers won a game a couple of weeks ago, but came close a number of times before that. And the Chicago Bears have earned two wins, but they have also been competitive in a number of games. Even last week, they lost at New Orleans, but it was not a blowout loss, or anything. In fact, both of these teams have been playing better in recent weeks.

So while this is not one of the mostly eagerly anticipated games for this season, both teams want this win. Yet, only one of them can win. And the problem with making picks when both teams have records like this is that you cannot be confident that the best of these teams will show up on any given weekend. They both have vulnerabilities, and it's tough to feel confident picking teams like these to win, when they both have shown such a capacity to lose.

Yet, one of them will emerge with a rare victory. For me, it feels like home field should play to the advantage of the Bears, although even then, the weather is not supposed to be anywhere near as nasty or blustery as one might think for Chicago in November. So weather will not likely be the deciding factor that it might otherwise be. But the Bears have been the slightly better team this season, and so they are my pick to earn themselves a win in this one.

My pick: Chicago
