For 14 years, the Conservative Party has been in charge in British politics. That said, the years since Brexit have been quite chaotic, with a quick succession of Prime Ministers, none of which seemed to have any lasting answers to the problems that ailed Great Britain. That included Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was desperately trying to cling to power, but which almost all experts agreed was a losing battle.
Sure enough, they were handed a humbling defeat. Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party swept to power, and earlier today, Starmer became Britain's new Prime Minister.
Here is a summary, according to a recent article by BBC News (see link below):
The party is set to take 412 seats with a majority of 174, with one result yet to be declared.
It is the worst Conservative result in terms of seats in history, with the party forecast to win as few as 122. The Liberal Democrats have their highest tally since 1923, taking 71 seats.
Let's see how the Labour Party does now with it's opportunity at power in the United Kingdom.
