Spain knocked out Les Bleus in yesterday's semifinal. So Spain becomes the first team to punch their ticket for this Sunday's final. They await the winner of today's other semifinal match between England and Netherlands.
Thie first half between Spain and France was fairly wild. There was a lot of offense, and a decent amount of scoring.
It started with France's striker Randal Kolo Muani breaking through in the 9th minute to give France an early 1-0 lead.
However, it did not take too long for Spain to answer. Young Lamine Yamal, who will turn 17 just before the Euro Final, broke through with a tying goal for Spain in the 21st minute.
Just four minutes later, Dani Olmo followed up for Spain with another goal. Just like that, they were up, 2-1.
The Spanish side was able to hold that lead for halftime.
The second half was a very different story. If the two sides had opened up on offense in the first half, the Spaniards focused on defense and keeping the ball away from France in the second half. In the end, the Spanish enjoyed a significant advantage in possession, but it felt particularly pronounced in the second half.
France had a few chances late, but it seemed that the kept squandering them with really wild shots that sailed well high of the goal.
And so, Spain has looked like the best team of this tournament from the beginning, and they are where you pretty much expect them to be at this point: in the final, and most likely favored to win the whole thing.
Personally, I felt that France should have put in Olivier Giroud earlier. They finally got him in there in the final twelve or so minutes, with very little time remaining. This man is Frances leading goal scorer, historically. Why not put him in there earlier, when you need to focus far more on offense than on defense?
In any case, Spain comes out on top, and we shall see later today who they will play in the Euro Final.
