England advances to the Euro Final!
Dutch attacking midfielder Xavi Simons put Netherlands up early when he broke through and scored the game's first goal in the 7th minute.
Netherlands did not keep the lead for very long, however.
In the 18th minute, English striker Harry Kane managed to tie the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick. That remained the score by the end of the first half.
Thie second half remained scoreless, as well, as both the tensions and the drama increased
And then, just like that, English forward Ollie Watkins broke through to score a dagger in the heart kind of a goal in the 90th minute. That goal gave England their first lead, 2-1, and with very little time remaining.
Indeed, England managed to hold Netherlands off to secure the win.
England had a significant advantage in possession holding onto the ball 59% of the game, and enjoying advantages in both shots on goal and shots on target.
This is the second straight Euro in which England have qualified for the final match. They made it against Italy in 2021. However, they lost that in a penalty shootout at the end to determine the champion. England has a golden opportunity to try and earn their first major world title since winning the World Cup title back in 1966.
They have a huge obstacle in front of them, however. Spain will be the team that they are meeting in the final. And nobody has looked better in this tournament than Spain, at least so far.
So now, we will await the final match between England and Spain in the Euro Final this Sunday in Berlin to see who is crowned the new champion.
