Remember when it seemed like the narrative in the 2024 election was all about how old and frail Joe Biden apparently was, and how he was mentally and physically unfit to serve in office? And how somehow, Donald Trump, a man only four years younger, was almost given a free pass as the more youthful of the two, even though Trump himself had shown signs of serious mental instability and physical and mental decline?
Yeah.
As it turns out, Trump's physical and mental deterioration were much more prominent and worrisome factors than the MAGA crowd and Trump's presidential campaign were allowing the public to know. Although there were plenty of warning signs anyway, but it seems that somehow, the MAGA crowd, as well as (let's face it) the major media seemed intent on overlooking and/or hiding this fact.
Well now, we are beginning to see serious signs of this decline. Trump has shown signs of physical deterioration, such as swollen ankles and bruised hands. More than that, there are (and frankly, long have been) signs that his mental state is anything but well and reassuring.
It was impossible for anyone to forget the serious signs of mental decline visible in Joe Biden, particularly during the debate. Yet somehow, everyone seemed to gloss over many similar signs of mental (and physical) decline with Trump.
Surprise, surprise.
Trump gets away with everything, on every level. Even now, people do not seem to want to discuss the obvious. Somehow, he routinely gets the benefit of the doubt, while nobody else (especially those who oppose him) get the same treatment.
Yet, the signs were always there. And they remain there, are apparently growing more frequent and more glaringly obvious and undeniable. According to this snippet from Haley Gunn of MSN.com (see link below), Trump can outright deny saying something, even when presented with a video clip of him actually saying it minutes earlier:
The clip was recorded five days before he rebuked ABC News’ Rachel Scott during a press conference for asking a follow-up question about what he said in the original footage.
Despite the video documenting his own words, the 79-year-old falsely denied ever making the comments.
As I have mentioned before, I do not and cannot pretend to understand the hold that Trump has over so many Americans. Why he gets away with bad conduct or anything and everything negative (including, apparently pedophilia) while no one who stands in his way can get away with anything is beyond me. Someday, in hindsight, people will recognize this as a sickness, with tens of millions of Americans sharing in the sickness. Of that, I have no doubt, unless he somehow manages to wipe out civilization as we know it (wish I was saying that in jest, but I'm not).
For now, however, we are still suffering the consequences.
