Ever since I was introduced to the Dead Kennedys by my brother back in the 1980's, I was interested in hearing what Jello Biafra had to say about the state of affairs of the country.
If anything, it feels more necessary than ever to get his interpretation of what's going on in the world. If nothing else, he is very well-informed about the news.
So while I do not always agree with him, he almost always make poignant and thought-provoking points which feel worth contemplating.
For a long time after Trump officially won the 2024 election, Jello Biafra seemed to simply disappear. I know it was difficult times. I remember feeling almost as if someone close has died. Indeed, I think that something important - some decency, perhaps - within the country did indeed seem to die, and it felt like it was a very different country. Indeed, admittedly, I even needed a couple of days, at least, to really process that and, yes, to grieve. That, despite having predicted Trump's 2024 election victory since a few days after Biden first took office in January of 2021. These are dark times in this country's history. Frankly, let's not pretend otherwise.
However, sometimes you look to others who you know are hurting as well. It felt like everyone was still absorbing all of this at first. Little by little, more and more voices began to speak, to try and gain and create perspective.
Yet, it seemed like Biafra remained unusually silent. He was conspicuous in his absence, seemingly. I can only imagine that this particular election was an especially bitter pill to swallow. For me, it far eclipsed the disappointment that I felt after other elections. Like all of those elections in the 1980's, when Republicans crushed Democrats. Like the 2000 election and, far worse, the 2004 election. And the 2016 election, which was far and away the most shocking election of my lifetime.
While 2024 was not nearly as shocking to me - in fact, it was the outcome that I mostly expected, albeit dreaded - it nevertheless was far and away the most depressing and disappointing. Seeing Trump somehow win the presidency once was bad enough. But at least you might convince yourself that it was some strange aberration. Once he wins the Oval Office twice, you cannot fool yourself into believing that anymore, even remotely.
So yeah, I get it. Biafra must have been crushed by the election results. It felt like he was silent for months.
However, he is back. And his perspective remains always interesting, and often enlightening.
It seemed to me worth not only viewing the video on what he has to say in the wake of Trump's invasion of Venezuela, but also to post this here.
Take a look at what he has to say about this situation.
