Albert Einstein Warned Americans About Racial Prejudices

Bust of Albert Einstein in Princeton, New Jersey, where he lived his final years.

Albert Einstein came to the United States to escape Hitler's Germany. So it became his adapted country.

While he was grateful for coming to a place which offered him safety and appreciated his presence, he nevertheless did not shy away from criticisms of things which he saw as wrong here in the United States at the time.

Below is a picture (and a link) to an article which he wrote to his fellow citizens, urging them to try and get past racial divisions and hatreds.

Seemed like something we might still need a reminder of right now.

#ThrowbackThursday: 80 years ago this month — in January 1946 — Einstein wrote an essay speaking out against racism. Einstein, who was very active in the Civil Rights movement, wrote, in part: "Our attitude towards things is conditioned by opinions, value judgments and emotions which we unconsciously absorb as children," adding that "the powerful influence of tradition is the influence of our conscious thought upon our conduct and convictions.”
