Trump and his Republicans won the White House and both houses of Congress. They own the Supreme Court. Because it's always a good idea to give a transparently greedy and blatantly corrupt political party, and their legendarily power-hungry president more control than anyone in American government has ever had before.
Now - surprise, surprise - their approval ratings are down. Significantly down, allegedly.
And yet again, just as he did in 2020, Trump is talking about cancelling the upcoming midterm elections.
Here's Trump on voter discontent:
"It's some deep psychological thing, but when you win the presidency, you don't win the midterms," Trump told Reuters in an interview published on Thursday. "When you think of it, we shouldn't even have an election."
Wow.
Now who could possibly have foreseen this outcome, eh? I mean, you have a notoriously authoritarian president with more power than any past president has ever had, who already has an extensive history of denying election results and talking about cancelling elections, and he is now talking once again of canceling elections, or not accepting the inevitable results, if they don't go the way that he wants them to.
Shocker, eh?
Now, Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act based on what's going on in Minnesota, even though it's his own forces which are stoking the world attention on it and inciting local reaction, based on his ICE raids.
Here is Trump already seeming to justify the inevitable:
"If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don't obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT," Trump wrote on Truth Social, "and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State."
Who knew that the warnings that Trump was a fascist now are coming to fruition? Nobody could possibly have know, right? It's not like there was any warning of any of this during his first four years in office, right?
No wonder Americans have a growing and, frankly, deserved reputation for stupidity around the world. We elect the most despicable, untrustworthy people into our highest offices, and then wonder how it could all have gone so terribly wrong.
What a joke.
Still believe that we were surely exaggerating when we warned that the guy is a fascist?
