Trump Seems to Suggest That He Wants Greenland Because of Nobel Prize Snub in Exchange With Norway's Leader

This is a picture of a magnet that was being sold at Strand's Book Store in New York City a few years ago. No, I did not buy it, but I liked it and took a picture, which I am sharing here now.

This latest story regarding Trump and Greenland is quite insane, even by Trump standards.

For all intents and purposes, Trump is seemingly threatening militarily taking over Greenland, a move which some feel could start World War III, because he feels snubbed for not having been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Seriously.

I wish this was a joke, but this is real.

Addressing Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump blasted the country for refusing to give him the Nobel Peace Prize. In the same message, Trump basically said that now, he would put American interests ahead of considerations of peace, and demanded that the United States absolutely required "Complete and Total Control of Greenland"

Trump did not rule out the possible use of force. When later asked about using the military to seize the island, he simply replied "no comment".

Already, Trump is taking aggressive economic action towards those who dare stand in the way of his territorial and colonial ambitions (from the same article):

Trump followed that deployment with an announcement to impose a 10% tariff on goods from eight Nato allies - including the UK - from 1 February if they opposed his proposed takeover of Greenland, and threatened to raise it to 25% by June.

European leaders have been trying to calm things down, trying to unplug a possibly volatile situation which could easily explode. Trump, however, is demanding appeasement.

The two European leaders said "we all should work to take this down and de-escalate - so much is happening around us where we need to stand together".

In his reply, Trump wrote: "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper' for the US."

Trump then reiterated his assertions that China and Russia are both seemingly about to take over Greenland, which is why he feels the United States absolutely needs to take it over. He also questioned why Denmark has "ownership" of the semi-autonomous island:

He went on to say that Denmark could not protect Greenland from Russia or China, and questioned, "why do they have a "right of ownership" anyway? There are no written documents, it's only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also".

"I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States," he said.

"The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland," he concluded.

These are dark times.

Trump sounds more and more unhinged and, with these latest words and actions, made the most compelling case yet that he is unfit to serve in the office he (sadly, perhaps tragically) currently holds.
