Trump's Obsession With Colonial Era Style Territorial Expansion Smacks of Egotistical & Petty "Me, Me, Me" Desire To Be Remembered

You know, when I was a kid, I had a book called "The Book of Presidents."

It was fairly interesting. It showed a large portrait of each president on one side, a snippet of some speech above the biography, and some pertinent facts. Also, importantly, it showed a small map of the United States and how it changed during the presidency. In other words, which parts of the president's territorial expansion ultimately became part of the United States.

When I hear Trump talking about obtaining all of these lands - by military force if necessary - I cannot help but think that he was thinking of something similar to those maps. He saw how other presidents were remembered for the territorial expansion which came under their presidency (like the Louisiana Purchase under Jefferson) and felt that this was the best way to have an enduring legacy and, in his mind, be remembered for greatness. I suspected as much from the very first time that I heard he wanted to purchase Greenland during his first term, years ago now.

Below is a short clip where Jon Stewart says something which I have long believed: that his desire for more territory is just another aspect of his petty desire to be remembered. He wants the conquest of Greenland to be part of his legacy.

I also feel the same about his desire to take over Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Panama, and Gaza, as well as Canada. It's all for selfish reasons (of course!). The "Me Me Me" president simply wants to be remembered as an empire builder.
