Many people who felt loyal to Joe Montana and held out for him as having the distinction as the "Greatest Of All Time" (popularly known as GOAT) in terms of quarterback, have been forced to more or less abandon those arguments as Tom Brady's own list of accomplishments grew to such an extent that it clearly eclipsed Montana.
I mean, let's face it: even if you take into consideration rules that favor offenses and quarterbacks, and which might seem to inflate (no pun intended) their numbers, the fact of the matter is that Brady's most important numbers clearly outshine those of Montana. Nine Super Bowl appearances, and six Super Bowl wins, to Montana's four. Four Super Bowl MVP awards, to Montana's three. A whopping 13 Championship Game appearances, to only 7 for Montana. Both have two NFL MVP honors to their credit, but Brady seems to have gotten closer than Montana to earning a third.
And, of course, Brady is still playing, so he is always adding still more to his legacy.
But one thing that I feel is incontestable is that Joe Montana sure seems a whole lot more likable than Tom Brady. Brady, with his MAGA hat, and his numerous public appearances and model girlfriend and charging kids for his autograph, just seems to lack the class and the sense of being more or less down to Earth that Montana seemed to exude.
Montana just seemed to earn his status as "Joe Cool."
Here is further proof: Montana was investing fairly heavily in the marijuana business, which really seems to be taking off as more and more states are legalizing, or at least seriously thinking about it.
