Voivod Writing New Album While Touring

Voivod

Earlier this month, I wrote about a Voivod show that I attended with my son in Brooklyn's Warsaw Club.

Well, it turns out that during this tour, they are actually working on yet another album, which sounds like something that I have never heard of before!

During the tour (before the show in Philadelphia, the day after the Brooklyn show that I went to, drummer Michel "Away" Langevin spoke with Michael Nagy of KJAG Radio and Jag TV. And during that interview, he revealed that, indeed, the band is actually working on material for a new album while they are on the road and touring.

Here is what he said, specifically:

"We are writing a new album right now on the road, but it's just that the year is booked very solid. After this U.S. tour, we are playing the Maryland Deathfest in May, and after that, we are playing the Jazz Fest [Festival International de Jazz de Montreal], and then we go and play all the festivals in Europe in August. September/October will be another U.S. tour, and November/December, we go back and do the clubs in Europe. We are able to demo material backstage and in the bus, so we're doing everything at once — constant touring and writing."

Simply amazing! These guys are one of the most underated bands that I know of. Most people do not know them, and they are hardly household names. Yet, many musicians know them - and appreciate them - very well.

This kind of thing is the reason why.
