Well, Game of Thrones is about to begin it's final season this weekend. Also, later this year, the final installment of the series of Star Wars Skywalker trilogies will be showing in the movie theaters for the holidays.

So, this seemed like a perfect time to post a blog entry that has some relevance for both, just in case there are other nerds who, like me, are into both.

There is one obvious links, as one of the creators of Game of Thrones will be working on a new Star Wars trilogy, which will apparently be set in the Old Republic.

Now, I should warn everyone that there might be spoilers, particularly with GoT that are coming up ahead if you intend to watch the series, but have not yet begun to do so. Be warned and continue reading at the risk of spoilers!

*** SPOILERS****** SPOILERS****** SPOILERS***

Since we are on the topic of both of these Sci-Fi/Fantasy franchises, it seemed appropriate to share something else that I ran into recently which kind of links, in a humorous way, the similarities between two of the major characters in each: Luke Skywalker for Star Wars, and Jamie Lannister for Game of Thrones. To be sure, they are entirely different characters, and again, this is meant to be more funny observations, than true, serious scrutinizing. Yet, there are similarities. Some of them include:

 - both lose their right hands.

- both have uncomfortably incestuous feelings at some points towards their sister

- both have very controlling fathers who have not gotten over the death of the mothers

- both have nephews who turn out to be complete jackasses

So, there you have it! Some similarities between these two otherwise seemingly unrelated characters, eh? I had never thought about the similarities, but am wondering if I am the only one?

Anyway, check out the link, because it is pretty funny!

Finally, I added a video of Carl Sagan discussing Star Wars, and specifically talking about how scientifically unlikely some of the themes are. Of course, I do not think that Sagan was really militant about these, and also do not believe that he was trying to seriously detract from the franchise, or the interest in space and science that it fostered, not to mention mythology. However, I also think that he raises some interesting points that I, and surely many others, also have felt, and not just about Star Wars. So, it seemed worth sharing here.

Enjoy!
