The erosion of American democracy is being hastened by the two most prominent Republicans in power right now.
Donald Trump, for all of his inexperience and transparent knowledge in how democratic government is supposed to work, is instead trying to implement a bullying and clearly anti-democratic authoritarianism into government, in the manner in which he ran his businesses. One of the key ways that he is doing this is by taking over the courts.
Of course, he cannot do this by himself. But he is getting key assistance by Senate Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who seems to be taking absolute glee in undermining the democratic principles which he, like Trump, is supposed to uphold.
Together, they have gone a long way towards getting rid of the democratic process that this country has run on for centuries, and are ushering in the anti-democratic authoritarianism that many Trump detractors feared the rise of Trump would indeed usher in.
Scary times we live in.
