Liz Cheney Loses House Seat, Yet Still Continues Fight Against Trumpism

Well, it has happened for Liz Cheney. She put herself at risk by being one of the very few Republicans in Congress to take on Donald Trump. Last night, it cost her, as she lost her seat in the Wyoming election.

Yet, to her credit, she says that she will continue the fight against Trumpism.

The winner was Harriet Hageman, who received the backing of Donald Trump, of course. So the country - and particularly the Republican party - continues to be unable to put this pathetic excuse for a so-called "leader" behind it, once and for all. Despite his transparent and obvious criminal nature and behavior, people still are showing that they are choosing to believe only what they want to believe, facts be damned. And they are acting on those willful and stubborn beliefs.

Sigh.

Never thought that I would feel sympathy for a member of the Cheney family, especially regarding their political fortunes. But I will continue to give her quite a bit of credit for being one of the few prominent Republicans in Congress willing to take on Trump and his obvious and numerous extremes. Also, for holding a mirror to her own party, and warning them that Trump will not last forever, and that they will need to answer when Trump is finally, once and for all, a part of American history, instead of a continued threat to American democracy.
