Today marks the anniversary of one of the most famous concerts in history, as the Beatles played at Shea Stadium. It was a first of a kind show. Well over 55,000 screaming fans showed up for this historic event. The Beatles, still at the height of their popularity, performed the first ever rock concert at a stadium.

The setup was not particularly good. The stage was in the middle of the baseball field, far away from everyone. And the sound system was not what it should have been, and what stadiums and arenas would later regularly have for future musical concerts. The screaming of their adoring fans prevented people in attendance from actually being able to hear the music of the concert. And yet, most people still remember it in positive terms.

Still, this is yet another example of the Beatles leading the way for all others to follow later. It was the beginning of a trend, and the Beatles themselves would play several more stadium concerts during their concert tour in that summer of 1965.

What a night it must have been!
