CFL Week 10 & 11 Review: Covering Two Weeks in Canadian Football

So I fell behind a bit in covering the CFL for the past couple of weeks. Week 11 just finished, and I had not really covered week 10, even though some interesting things happened then. It seemed appropriate at this point to take advantage of this opportunity to cover both weekends at the same time, but to split them up. Here goes:

Week 10

Montreal 20, Winnipeg 17 - The Blue Bombers suffered their first (and so far only) loss of the season. They did it a week after struggling against these same Alouettes, although they were at least able to overcome early mistakes in that first meeting and eventually win. Not this time, even though they were at home. Winnipeg uncharacteristically missed a number 0f opportunities, and the Alouettes just seemed to make the Blue Bombers uncomfortable all game long. Still, the Blue bombers had some chances towards the end, but missed field goals killed them. First, a missed field goal to avoid overtime and win it outright in regulation. Then, a missed field goal to keep the overtime session going. That one iced the game for Montreal, and ended Winnipeg's perfect start at 9-0.

Hamilton 34, Toronto 27 - The Tiger-Cats exacted a measure of revenge against the Argonauts, and remained relevant in the East Division with this huge win for them.

British Columbia 41, Calgary 40 - Two of the top teams in the league met, and there were some real fireworks. The Lions had overtaken the Stampeders as the second best team in the CFL after Winnipeg, but this huge road win kind of cements that even more.

Saskatchawan 34, Edmonton 23 - The roughriders stop the bleeding from a losing streak with a big win against the worst team in the West.

Week 11

Edmonton 30, Ottawa 12 - The Elks were trying to stop the bleeding from their massive losing streak. And they did just thaat. A trip to the nation's capital was what they evidently needed, earning a convincing road win against the worst team in the CFL so far this season.

British Columbia 28, Saskatchewan 10 - The Lions stayed red hot with another convincing win, this one on the road against the struggling Roughriders in Saskatchewan.

Montreal 29, Hamilton 28 - The best game of the week in the CFL! These two teams are both chasing Toronto in the East, and they also both could not afford to fall behind one another. The Alouettes, coming off a huge win against previously unbeaten Winnipeg, hosted the game, which proved to be a back and forth affair. Both teams had solid highlights, and this game went down to the wire, with shifts in power right to the very end. The Alouettes pulled it off with a last second field goal, lifting them to another huge win.

Calgary 22, Toronto 19 - The Stampeders and Argonauts both needed a win. The Argos are trying to stay ahead in the East Division, while Calgary is trying to remain among the elites in the West, and not fall behind farther to either Winnipeg or British Columbia. In the end, Calgary pulled off a big road win in Toronto.
