Happy Independence Day!
Well, that might not seem to make sense for many westerners, especially here in the United States, given that it is August 15th.
However, it was on this day in 1947 that India gained it's independence from British rule. That followed almost two centuries of rule by the British.
India did remain part of the Commonwealth of Nations. But it has been a fully independent nation ever since winning their independence on this day 75 years ago.
