Former Trump attorney, who seems to know much of what seems to motivate Trump to do the things that he does, believes that Trump took those classified documents - which include classified nuclear documents - as a bargaining chip to avoid serious legal consequences for his actions. That would include jail time. Trump could make history as the first former president to find himself behind bars, and perhaps he believed this would serve as leverage.
As such, it serves as yet more evidence - as if more proof were needed - that Trump indeed is too dangerous not to find himself behind bars.
