Trump Subpoenaed by January 6th Committee Trump

Trump has been subpoenaed by the January 6th Committee. Immediately after receiving the word, Trump sent out a message which, according to Glenn Kirschner (and I think he has reason to believe this) actually implicates himself.

Of course, Trump himself could not have known, or believes himself to be entirely exempt from any legal ramifications for his own actions. So far, you would be hard pressed to think Trump wrong for believing this, given just how much he has gotten away with to this point in time. There are numerous outright criminal actions that he has taken, both before, during, and since his time in the White House, that could and should have gotten him in legal hot water. Surely by now, this man should be behind bars at this point.

Yet, he is free, and playing golf and thinking of running for the Oval Office once again in 2024.

Kirschner warns that there is no chance that Trump will actually testify. He will appeal, then appeal, then appeal again. And once he is done with that - and Kirschner warns that it likely will go all the way to the Supreme Court - Trump will, at most, go before the January 6th Committee and plead the fifth, like he did earlier this year.

According to Kirschner, however, Trump's initial, written response to being subpoenaed was itself an admission of guilt. According to 18 U.S.C. 371, which is a clause addressing committing offences against or defraud the United States, Trump is indeed guilty. He has lied about massive voter fraud, and then tried to direct what amounts to an attempted coup to remain in power.

It failed. At least on that day, it did. However, if Trump continues to get away with things, he may indeed run again, and he would have a chance at winning. Then, he has significantly more power, including legal power, and as Bill Maher suggested during his first term, we might never get rid of him.

The time to take Trump down and hopefully send him behind bars is now.

Let's hope that this is pretty much as open and shut a case as Kirschner suggests it is. As a nation, we need to put Trump in our past already, if we are to have any chance of moving forward.
